Description

Swim Camp is the perfect solution for busy parents. No need to drive your kids to swim lessons outside of your regular work day.

The lessons provided in this camp are the same as you would receive with the City of Ottawa’s Sea Creatures and Sea Colours program. Detailed descriptions provided below. Lessons are provided during camp hours by experienced, qualified City of Ottawa Lifeguards/Instructors.

This camp is offered only as a two-week camp because of the number of hours required for swimming lessons.

Campers will have a 45-minute swimming lesson each morning for two weeks. When they are not at their swim lessons, “swim campers” will participate in group games in the morning and swimming or splash pad activities in the afternoon. See schedule below.

Campers will be placed in appropriate swim levels based on the swim assessment completed on the first day. Just as with the City of Ottawa swim program, participants will receive a progress report at the end of each two-week session.

Swim Lesson Locations (by camp location)

Orleans

Bob McQuarrie Recreation Complex

Orleans campers will be transported by school bus to the Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex each morning for their lesson and then return to camp for the rest of the morning activities.

Barrhaven

Walter Baker Sports Centre

Barrhaven campers will be transported by school bus to the Walter Baker Sports Centre each morning for their lesson and then return to camp for the rest of the morning activities.

Kanata

Beaverbrook Outdoor Pool

Kanata campers will make the 15 minute walk to the Beaverbrook Pool each morning for their lesson and then return to camp for the rest of the morning activities.

Our swim program is run in conjunction with the City of Ottawa and we rely on the expertise of their lifeguards to assess the appropriate levels of all campers.

Based on the first day assessment of the lifeguards, campers will be placed in swim groups of 10 with an instructor to camper ratio of 5:1. Please note that lifeguards sometimes move a swimmer to a different level based on their on-going assessment over the first 4 days of lessons. Parents will receive written notice of their child’s swim level on Friday of the first week.

* Small group sizes allow the instructor (and an assistant) to work very closely with all campers at different levels.

Quest for the Gator Cup

One of the traditions we are most proud of is our weekly "Quest for the Gator Cup". Since 1996, this fierce, but friendly, competition has pit our Safari friends (Iguanas, Parrots, Treefrogs, Cheetahs, Elephants, and Gators) against one another in a week-long competition that we call the "Quest for the Gator Cup". Each team consists of campers of all ages and from all Specialty Camps and their counselors. At the end of each week, every camper receives a commemorative ribbon celebrating their participation in this one-of-a-kind event.

The Gator Cup is sure to be the highlight of every camper's week and something they will remember for years to come.
